Toronto’s Sousa Mendes Playground Dedication

City of Toronto Honors Sousa Mendes

The City of Toronto in partnership with the Sousa Mendes Foundation, the Associação Cultural 25 de Abril, the Leo Baeck Day School, the Centre for Jewish and Israel Affairs, and the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto invite you to attend the ceremonial dedication of the Sousa Mendes Playground.

Aristides de Sousa Mendes, while serving as the Consul General of Portugal in Bordeaux during World War II, provided a means of escape to persecuted people, many of whom were Jews, fleeing Nazi-occupied territory. His courage and selflessness are deeply admired and cherished by both the Portuguese and Jewish communities of Toronto.
