This family received visas signed by Vice-Consul Manuel Vieira Braga (following instructions from Aristides de Sousa Mendes) in Bayonne, France on June 22, 1940.

The DESER family were in Figueira da Foz, Portugal in July 1940. They sailed from Lisbon to New York on the vessel Guine in May 1941. Emile MELAMED, brother of Marjam DESER, settled in Israel after fighting in the South African army’s North African campaigns.
