The SILBERMAN and WOLF families were named in a telegram from Aristides de Sousa Mendes to Salazar, the Portuguese head of state, requesting permission to issue visas.

The WOLF family sailed from Le Verdon, France to New York on the vessel Washington in June 1940. The LANDA, PALATIN, SILBERMAN and URAM families crossed into Portugal. The SILBERMAN couple traveled from Lisbon to New York on the Quanza in August 1940. The URAM family sailed to Brazil on the Serpa Pinto in November 1940.
