Portuguese School of Long Branch


Film created by 8th and 9th grade students

On March 1, 2014 the students at the Portuguese School of Long Branch and the Sousa Mendes Foundation presented a seminar on Aristides de Sousa Mendes: Save A Life, Save The World.

Participants included The Consul General of Portugal in Newark, Dr. Pedro Oliveira; Louis-Philippe Mendes, grandson of Aristides de Sousa Mendes and President of the Sousa Mendes Foundation; João Crisóstomo, President of LAMETA; Frank Pallone, New Jersey Congressman; and Joan Halperin, daughter of Sousa Mendes visa recipients. The event was coordinated by Raquel Rosa, and included the US premiere of the documentary film, “I am Alive thanks to Aristides de Sousa Mendes” directed by Priscilla Fontoura.
