Dr. Sylvain Bromberger

Sylvain BrombergerDr. Sylvain Bromberger is professor emeritus in the MIT Department of Linguistics and Philosophy and also taught at Princeton University and the University of Chicago.  His family (father, mother, and two brothers, as well as himself) obtained the Portuguese visas that saved their lives in Bayonne thanks to Aristides de Sousa Mendes, although they did not find out about him until long after his death.  Bromberger’s book How We Know What We Don’t Know is dedicated to Sousa Mendes’s memory.  He and his brother David Bromberger were featured in the Sousa Mendes documentary film Le Consul proscrit.
